What is grant writing?

When grant money becomes available, funders will create and publish grant application guidelines for eligible agencies to apply for funding. These guidelines are often referred to as “Request for Proposals” (RFP’s) or “Request for Applications” (RFA’s); and they explain the information needed to submit a grant proposal request. To apply for grants, you must write and submit forms, a narrative, budget, and other information as part of your “proposal” response to the funder guidelines. The strategic process of developing such information and presenting it as a competitive funding proposal with quality and precision is what we call “grant writing.”
